My 24-hour LED clock has a six-digit display that shows hours, minutes and seconds. I have noticed that this sometimes means I get palindromic times – those that read the same backwards and forwards (starting at 00:00:00 of course).

The other day, I looked at the clock and the time was a palindrome. In less than 10 minutes, it happened again! Within an hour of that, I looked at the clock again. Another palindrome. But I then had to wait for what turned out to be the equal longest …
