The US Coast Guard has flown over Hawaii’s Mauna Loa volcano, which started erupting on 27 November for the first time since 1984.
The eruption of the world’s largest active volcano began in Moku’āweoweo, the summit caldera, and has moved into the north-east rift zone. Erupting fissure fountains and lava flows are visible, but there is currently no threat to nearby communities.
