Alison George is an award-winning science writer and editor who focusses on life sciences, health and archaeology. She started her career as researcher with the British Antarctic Survey, spending 18 months in the Antarctic, and has a PhD and BSc in biochemistry.
She is currently a features editor at New Scientist and oversees the popular Last Word section. She has written about everything from cold-water swimming, the secret life of cheese, the reason why we’re conscious to the mysteries of Stonehenge. Previously she wrote and edited a series of books for New Scientist including The Brain: A User’s Guide and The Quantum World, and is a former winner of the PTC New Journalist of the Year award. Prior to joining New Scientist her freelance articles were published in the Guardian newspaper, where she interned after being awarded a British Science Association Media Fellowship.
